The Pythia was the title given to the high priestess of the Temple of Apollo in the Sanctuary of Delphi, otherwise known as the Oracle of Delphi.
By the time of the Peloponnesian War, the Oracle had been corrupted by the Cult of Kosmos for several generations. The Cult had used them to spread false prophecies, ones that would benefit the Cult and its allies, for some time.[1]
During the Peloponnesian War the Spartan misthios Kassandra met two women who had worked as the Oracle, both in Phokis: the title-holder at the time, as well as a former Pythia, Praxithea.[2]
