Mayfair is a district in central London, England.

History

On 8 February 1788, the French Templar Élise de la Serre and her new ward Hélène arrived at the Carrolls' home in Mayfair to seek their assistance in finding the former British Assassin Bernard Ruddock. However, Élise soon became caught in a web of lies and deceit when her mentor Frederick Weatherall, who visited the Carrolls for the same reason, saw her. After two days, Mrs. Carroll and Peter Carroll assigned Élise to infiltrate the home of Jennifer Scott, sister of the former Grand Master of the Colonial Rite, Haytham Kenway, and daughter of the Master Assassin Edward Kenway, in order to retrieve the letters Haytham had sent her. In the meantime, the Carrolls promised to look for Ruddock.[1]

After two months of preparation, on 2 April, Élise and Hélène left the Carrolls' home and traveled to the Kenway Mansion in Queen Anne's Square to try and get into Jennifer's good graces. Despite some hostilities, both women succeeded in their task, as Jennifer gave Élise her late brother's letters after six days. Élise and Hélène then rode back to Mayfair and met with Mr. Carroll and Weatherall, who had found Ruddock's location. Sending Hélène away to Dover, Élise went to a tavern and met with a man who told her about Ruddock's alias and his room upstairs. Confronting the ex-Assassin, Élise allowed him to escape while the Carrolls, their men, and Weatherall arrived shortly after and found her alone.[1]

Surrounded, Élise disclosed that she had succeeded in her mission and gave them Haytham's letters—in reality her own correspondence with her lover, Arno Dorian. She then revealed that, in his letters, Haytham had argued for an end to the war against the Assassins, only for the Carrolls to immediately burn the letters, due to viewing the idea of a truce with the Assassins as heretical. They then decided that Élise had to die, and had their daughter May Carroll fight her in a duel. Élise emerged victorious and killed May, much to the shock of her parents. She and Weatherall then dealt with the guards while the Carrolls escaped, though not before Mrs. Carroll shot Weatherall in the leg. Grabbing a carriage, Élise drove her and her mentor towards Dover so they could rendezvous with Hélène and escape England.[1]

In 1861, Pierrette Arnaud surveilled the area around Mayfair, especially Brown's Hotel, in order to find and question Countess Konstanze von Visler about any information regarding Oscar Kane, the Magus. However, as she descended from a chimney, Pierrette was grabbed and knocked unconscious by the countess' bodyguard, Art Hennighan.[2]
