Heitor was a mercenary and a friend and mentor of the Spartan mercenary Kassandra, living in Greece during the 5th century BCE. He was especially fond of his sword, which he simply called 'Harpe' and whose origin was never the same when he told it.

History

During Kassandra's youth, Heitor mentored her and helped her, saving her at least once when she and Markos got into trouble.[1] At another time, they fought back to back, surrounded by angry pirates.[2]

After leaving Kephallonia some time before the Peloponnesian War, Heitor made it to Attika and settled down in the village of Dekelia. Sometime later, Kassandra came to the village, too, and met him again. He told her a commander of the nearby fort had taken his beloved blade and asked her to retrieve it.[2]

She was successful in this task and returned the sword to him even though she had learned that he had lied to her: he had sold the blade to the commander in order to gain money enough to set up his smithery. Nonetheless, Kassandra forgave him. He then asked her help to free a fellow mercenary, Himilko, from the nearby military camp.[1]

Kassandra managed to free Himilko, and then escorted him to a nearby shore, where they found both a boat as well as Heitor waiting. Kassandra learned that Heitor had tasked her to rescue Himilko so that Heitor might kill him, as vengeance for killing "the love of (Heitor's) life", who had also been Himilko's wife. As it turned out, Himilko had found Heitor sleeping with Himilko's wife, and had drawn his sword as to defend his honor. In the following scuffle between the men, their swords had struck the woman when she attempted to stop them, and she died. With Kassandra's help, the men decided to part ways and never see each other again.[1]
