The Grave of Tereus was a grave located within the Occupied Forest of Tripodiskos in Megaris, Greece. People placed offerings at the foot of the statue placed there.
History
During the Peloponnesian War, the Spartan misthios Kassandra visited the grave and found a group of Megarian civilians hiding in the cave behind it, among which included a woman named Neaera. Neaera and the others from her village had been using the cave as a storehouse for food, some of which they had seized from a Spartan supply wagon that had been attacked by Athenians along the road to Megaris.[1]
The food had originally been theirs in the first place before they were pillaged by the Spartans, leaving them to starve. Neaera insisted that they had not slaughtered the Spartan soldiers transporting the supplies, only having retrieved their food after being instructed to do so by the mercenary Hyrkanos, then in the employ of Athens. In spite of this, Kassandra, tasked by the Spartan Dolios to track down the culprits behind the supply wagon's attack, was displeased with them and took some of the food back to Dolios.[1]
