Edonos the Charging Bull (died c. 420s BCE) was a mercenary who operated on the Greek island of Crete during the Peloponnesian War.
Biography
Wielding an axe and a shield, Edonos was known for his antics of charging his adversaries when backed into a corner.[1]
Between 429 and 422 BCE, he was hunted down by the Spartan misthios Kassandra, who obtained his signature axe[2]
Trivia
- The name Edonos (Ἠδωνός) is derived from the Edoni, an ancient tribe in Thracian. It is also the name of their alleged ancestor Edonus.[3]
