The Chalkis City is the main town on the island of Euboea in Greece.

In ancient times, it was a thriving city with a long rivalry against its neighbor, Eretria. Their many conflicts vying for control of colonies and trade culminated in Chalcis' attempted enslavement of Eretria following their ruin in the second Persian invasion.[1]

Chalkis was best known for its metalworking and bronze weapon manufacturing. Because of this, the city was forced to sign a treaty swearing loyalty to Athens during the Peloponnesian War.[1]
