Þrymr, also known as Thrymr, and Thrym, was an Isu and king of the Jötnar in Norse mythology.

Mythology

It was one said Þrymr stole Mjölnir from Thor to force the Æsir to hand over Freyja to become his wife. He was however killed by the combined forces of Thor. Loki and Heimdall who also killed his wife and any Jötnar who were at the wedding.[1]

Biography

When Havi went to search for a gift for Gunlodr, he traveled to Thrymr's house in Jötunheimr.[2]

Legacy

Þrymr had a totem named after him in the popular dice game Orlog. The piece "Thrymr's Theft" would reduce the effect of a god Favor invoked by the opponent during that round. An Anglo-Saxon man in Glowecestre, Glowecestrescire possessed the piece, which he gave to Eivor Varinsdottir after being defeated.[3]
