The Theater of Dionysos was a major theater located at the foot of the Athenian Akropolis in Athens, Greece. Dedicated to the Greek god of wine, grapes and theater, Dionysus, the teater introduced Greek theater to the heart of the city.
The theater was also known for hosting the performances of works written by famous tragedians such as Euripides, Aischylos, Aristophanes and Sophokles.[1]
History
During the Peloponnesian War, the theater was visited by the Spartan misthios Kassandra.[1]
