The first usage of the Sword by someone other than one of Those Who Came Before was by Perseus, who in Greek myth was a "demigod" (the child of a god and a mortal), who used it to slay the Gorgon Medusa.
5th and 6th Centuries
The Sword came into possession of Attila the Hun during the 5th century, after a shepherd dug it up and took it to Attila. With the sword, he ravaged Eurasia during his reign. It was during this time that the Sword became known as the Sword of Mars or the Sword of Attila.
