Sanctuary of Sounion

The Sanctuary of Sounion was a sanctuary situated on the southernmost tip of the Attika peninsula. In classical antiquity, it was known for housing a Temple of Poseidon that was considered one of the major monuments of the Golden Age of Athens.

Due to the temple's presence, sailors would often visit the sanctuary to pay for safe passage on the seas. The Spartan misthios Kassandra did so as well, during the Peloponnesian War.[1]
