The Sanctuary of Athena Pronaia was a temple complex located east of the Sanctuary of Delphi in Phokis, Greece. It was dedicated to Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom. During the 5th century BCE, the temple was under the control of the Cult of Kosmos.
In around 431 BCE, the Spartan misthios Kassandra visited the temple complex, eliminating the cultist guards and finding one of the Ainigmata Ostraka within.[1]
Trivia
- πρόναιᾰ (prónaia) is Greek for 'in advance, before', the sense of the name of the sanctuary being 'Athena before the Temple (of Apollo)'.
