The Nemean Lion was a legendary lion who lived within the Sinkholes of Herakles in Argolis, Greece during the 5th century BCE.
History
Myth
It was said that neither blade nor flame could harm this creature, but the legendary hero Herakles defeated it by first trapping in its den, and then strangling it with his bare hands, taking its hide as a trophy that he wore.[1]

During the Peloponnesian War the lion was hunted down by Kassandra at the request of Daphnae, the leader of the Daughters of Artemis. As proof of her success, Kassandra brought Daphnae the lion's pelt.[2]
