The name 'Taygetos' is one of oldest recorded, appearing in the Odyssey. History
Sometime during the mid 400s BCE, Nikolaos, upon suffering a great tragedy, had their child sentenced to death. Nikolaos carried out the execution and threw them from the top of Mount Taygetos. However the child survived, and went on to live as a fierce mercenary.
