Ithaka

Ithaka is a Greek island situated off the northeastern coast of Kephallonia. Together with Kephallonia, Ithaka formed the Kephallonia Islands.

In Greek mythology, the island was home to Odysseus, a legendary Greek hero and King of Ithaka who fought in the Trojan War.

History

In around 431 BCE, the Spartan misthios, Kassandra, visited the island in search of Odysseus' Palace, having been tasked by Elpenor to retrieve a shroud belonging to Penelope, the wife of Odysseus.[1]

While searching for the shroud, Kassandra came across a woman named Odessa locked in a cage by a group of bandits who had occupied the palace ruins. Kassandra freed the woman and escorted her to safety outside the ruins. Claiming herself to be a descendant of Odysseus, Odessa requested Kassandra to explore the ruins with her in hopes that she would learn something about her ancestor. When she found nothing, Kassandra escorted Odessa to coast.[2]
