The Cave of Danaos was a natural cavern located within the Promontory of Skylla in Argolis, Greece.
During the Peloponnesian War the misthios Kassandra explored the cave, finding that wolves had made it their lair.[1]
Trivia
- The cave's name likely references Danaus, a King of Libya and the first king of Argos in the Danaid dynasty in Greek mythology. When the Argives saw a wolf fight a bull and win, they took it as a sign that Danaus, who "like a wolf" had not lived among them before then, should be their king.
