The Bay of Xerxes was the central region of Malis, Greece. Largely uninhabited, the region was home to just a handful of camps during the Peloponnesian War.
History
The bay was named after the fact that the Persian king Xerxes I of Persia landed his army in the bay, before they proceeded to the Hot Gates of Thermopylai to meet the defending Greek forces led by the Spartan king Leonidas I of Sparta, in what would later be known as the Battle of Thermopylae.[1][2]
Decades later, Leonidas' granddaughter, the Spartan misthios Kassandra explored the area.[2]
