―Sophos[src]-[m]

Sophos (died 420s BCE), also known as the Broker, was a shipwright from Patrai and a member of the Order of the Storm branch of the Order of the Ancients.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Possessing a gift for gathering wealth, especially in the form of drachmae, Sophos was convinced that gold was the sign of a ruler, not a title. As far as titles went, he was content with being a shipbuilder, though when the Tempest approached him and talked him into joining her Order and helping her out, Sophos saw a way to become even more, and agreed to the Tempest's plans.[1]

Thus Sophos ended up funding the Order via his shipbuilding enterprise,[2] and used their signet to mark documents.[3]

During the Achaian blockade, Sophos received a letter from his fellow Ancient Nestor the Formidable after the latter had run a fleet of triremes into the rocks of Scavenger's Coast. Informed that there were three ships worth of unspoiled wood for his shipyard, Sophos was also warned that the Tempest was serious about the Eagle Bearer.[4]

Sophos was also ordered by the Unbreakable not to engage the Eagle Bearer, although he did not heed his warning, challenging Megakreon's leadership and trying to goad him into seeking out the Eagle Bearer himself to prove his worth to the Tempest.[5]

Busying himself with the overview of the Shipyard of Patrai, Sophos spent his nights in another shipyard. Unaware of being watched, he failed to notice the Spartan misthios Kassandra before it was too late.[6]

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]

The name of Sophos, a character in Assassin's Creed: Odyssey's DLC Legacy of the First Blade: Shadow Heritage, is derived from the Greek word σοφός (sophós), meaning 'wise, cunning, clever, skillful, able, intelligent'.
