A view of the Octopus Bay

The Octopus Bay was a northern region of Messara, Greece.

History[edit | edit source]

Home to the port city of Knossos, Heraklion, the Octopus Bay was largely inhabited by fishermen and their families.[1]

Though by the time of the Peloponnesian War only the temple dedicated to the Greek god of the seas, Poseidon, stood, in the depths of the bay also laid the temple dedicated to Eileithyia, the Greek goddess of childbirth and midwifery.[1]

During the Peloponnesian War, the Spartan misthios Kassandra explored the place.[1]
