Koronis was a Thessalian princess, a lover of Apollo and mother of Asklepios in Greek mythology.

While Koronis was pregnant with Asklepios, Apollo discovered she'd been unfaithful and killed her before having her body burned on a funeral pyre. Apollo rescued their unborn child from her womb before the fire consumed her body.[1][2]
