"La'anakum Allah! (May God curse you!) One artifact, and no one can find it."
―Javed to his men at the Baghdad harbor, 860s.[src]-[m]

Javed (died 860s), also known as Al-Kulullû (الكليلو; The Fish-Man) or The Harbormaster, was an Abbasid military leader and a member of the Order of the Ancients operating in Baghdad during the 9th century.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Javed served as the harbormaster of Baghdad in the 860s, conducting most of his business at the Harbor Camp in the city's Sharqiyah sub-district. At some point, he joined the Order of the Ancients, serving under Ning, the Order leader in Karkh, who tasked him to seize all foreign goods being brought into the city in search of an ancient Chinese hairpin she desired.[1]

Javed set up a blockade at the harbor,[1] which was funded by Suhail, a fellow Order member who raised the taxes for merchants at the Bazaar.[2] However, the harbormaster was unable to retrieve the hairpin before it made it into the auction space of the Da'irat Al-mal, causing Ning to harshly reprimand him for his failure in a letter.[1]

Despite this, Javed continued running his operation at the harbor, seizing all foreign merchants' wares, including those of the Chinese merchant Kong. After Kong sought the aid of his friend, the Hidden One Basim ibn Ishaq, the latter investigated the blockade and learned about Javed's search for the hairpin, as well as his role as a member of the Order. This led to Basim assassinating the harbormaster at his camp, whereupon he retrieved a note that would allow Kong to recover his confiscated wares.[1]

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]

Javed's Order cryptonym, Al-Kulullû (الكليلو), is a reference to the Kulullû, a beast in ancient Mesopotamian mythology described as half-man, half-fish.[3] His in-game character model is that of a generic Turkic Army captain dressed in cyan robes, despite his image in the Investigation menu depicting him with red robes.
