"A grand auction is happening, the Da'irat Al-mal. An annual show of silk robes comparing their golden spoons. No surprise, but this event is invite only."

The Da'irat Al-mal, also known as the Grand Auction, was a yearly event that took place at the Grand Bazaar in Baghdad's Karkh district. It was where rare and precious objects were put up for auction for exclusive and potential buyers to bid for its purchase. From its inauguration, the event has attracted merchants and businesspeople from across Eurasia.

History[edit | edit source]

During one particular event in the 860s, the Alamut Hidden One Basim Ibn Ishaq attempted to gain entry into the auction in order to locate and eliminate the Order of the Ancients member known as "The Treasurer",[1] who sought to add a precious Chinese hairpin to their collection.[2]

With the help of his friend Kong, a tea merchant, Basim acquired an invitation to the Da'irat Al-mal and participated in the auction, ultimately managing to secure the hairpin. He then arranged a meeting with the Treasurer, whom he had identified as the Chinese merchant Ning, and assassinated her.[3]
