The Ruinous Sanctuary was an ancient Lihyanite sanctuary located northeast of Lion's Tomb in the Southern Wilds, Al-Ula Valley.

History[edit | edit source]

In the later 1st millennium BCE, the sanctuary was established at Dadan by the Lihyanites. Among its features were examples of Lihyanite sculpture, with Egyptian and Greek influences, including colossal stone statues that are interpreted as local rulers, as well as a large stone basin, which was likely used for the worshippers' ablutions.[1]

In the 860s, during Basim ibn Ishaq's time in the region, he visited the landmark, already in ruins.[2]
