Raia (Wife of Anen)

Raia was the wife of the blacksmith Anen in Set-Ma'at. She was also the sister of the village's embalmer Ranofer.
Biography[edit | edit source]
At some point in the mid-1st century BCE, Ranofer died and was buried in the Workers' Necropolis behind the village. To ensure that he would be protected in the afterlife, Raia fashioned a piece of amulet and placed it with his body in the tomb. Around 38 BCE, Ranofer's tomb was desecrated by a group of tomb robbers, who destroyed it with a hammer stolen from Anen and taking Ranofer's body away. Despite being urged by her husband to return home to safety, Raia refused and would spend her time praying at a shrine near the necropolis.[1]
A while later, Raia was found by the Hidden One Bayek of Siwa, who was passing through the village to the Valley of the Kings. Raia informed Bayek of the incident revolving around her brother's tomb, requesting his help to track down the culprits. In exchange, Raia agreed to return home to her husband. As she did so, Raia caught sight of the Roman soldiers dragging her husband away, holding him captive at a camp in the valley.[1]
Raia later met Bayek in the middle of the road, informing him of her husband's capture. Bayek was able to free Anen, allowing him to return to safety as he tracked down the tomb robbers and her husband's body. Sometime later, Raia and Anen was given the news that Ranofer's body had been burned, leaving nothing but the amulet that she had placed on his body. Raia thanked Bayek for his efforts, enthrusting him with the amulet.[1]
