The villa inside the granary

The Kerkesoucha Granary was a farm estate located in the Faiyum Oasis, north of Krokodilopolis. During the 1st century BCE, it was the personal residence of Berenike, the nomarch of the region and a member of the Order of the Ancients.

History[edit | edit source]

In 48 BCE, before the Medjay Bayek of Siwa eliminated the Crocodile, farmers could be seen protesting around the entrances of the estate.[1]

After learning of Berenike's identity as a member of the Order and the killer of Hotephres' daughter Shadya, Bayek travelled to the estate to assassinate Berenike once and for all. There, he saw his old friend Kensa, who was employed by Berenike as her personal bodyguard. This did not impede Bayek in his mission, and he ultimately succeeded in assassinating Berenike.[2]

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]

Kerkesoucha is Greek for 'settlement of Souchos'. Souchos is the Greek name of Sobek.[3] It was a historical location mentioned in papyri excavated from Faiyum.
