Burkhan Khaldun is one of the Khentii Mountains in northeastern Mongolia. It is believed to hold the tombs of the first Mongolian Emperor Genghis Khan and his sons.

History[edit | edit source]

In 1259, the body of Möngke Khan was escorted by his son Asutai, who led the Kheshig guards, and the Mongolian commander Bayan during his funeral service along the mountain. While marching to the tomb, Asutai recruited Bayan into the Kheshig and the Mongolian Rite of the Templar Order. Möngke was then buried alongside his personal dagger, which was in reality the Fear Prong of the Trident of Eden.[1]

In October 2016, Natalya Aliyev, a descendant of Bayan, determined Möngke's burial site after having relived Bayan's memories.[1] Accompanying the Assassins Griffin and Yanmei and her friend Javier to the tomb, they began to dig for any clues. However, after Javier showed her the crossbow pistol, she fired sleep darts at the Assassins, knocking them unconscious, before aiming at Javier. Telling him she did not trust either side, they kept digging until they found a Templar mechanism. Activating it, they dug deeper but noticed a group incoming.[2]

Soon, the pair were joined by Owen Meyers, David and Grace Collins, and Monroe, who assisted them in their dig. Upon discovering an access point, they were found by a Templar strike team led by Isaiah, director of the Aerie. Holding them captive, Monroe and the children were eventually rescued by Griffin and Yanmei, who then fought the Templars alongside Grace, Javier, and Owen. However, Isaiah took this moment to venture into the tomb himself, with Owen and Javier following him.[3]

Isaiah managed to retrieve the Fear Prong and used it on Owen and Javier, causing them to experience fear-based hallucinations. After returning to their senses, the boys followed Isaiah outside the tomb, only for the Templar to use the prong against everyone present. Yanmei tried to stop him, but Isaiah stabbed her with the prong and escaped with his Templar troops after announcing his departure from the Order. With Yanmei injured, her allies carried her out of the tomb and back to the Abstergo camp, but they were too late to treat her wounds as Yanmei ended up passing away.[3]
