The Gorgon Disk

The Gorgon Disk was an Isu artifact which was used to gain access to the Petrified Temple, housing the Writhing Dread on the Greek island of Lesbos.

History[edit | edit source]

Kept within the Petrified Temple itself, the Daughters of Artemis who trained in the Petrified Valley discovered the disk at some point in a 'pit full of snakes', according to a story. They took the artifact to their village on Chios, and hid it in a cave nearby.[1] Guarded by both their members as well as bears, the disk was kept safe from prying eyes until the Spartan misthios Kassandra claimed it in the 420s BCE.[2]

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]

Like the other 'keys' to the Olympos Project lairs in Assassin's Creed: Odyssey, the Gorgon Disk bears a resemblance to the Phaistos Disc. However, instead of the symbols being arranged in a spiral, the version in Assassin's Creed: Odyssey has them in two distinct wheels, around a center with a stylized group of snakes.

The files for the game also have it under the unused name Antissa Disk; Antissa being a city on Lesbos.
