Wang Jian
Wang Jian (王堅; 1204 – 1264) was a military commander of the Diaoyu Castle in the late Song dynasty.[1]
Biography
In 1259, Wang Jian commanded the Song forces at the Siege of Diaoyu Castle. At some point in the aftermath of the siege, he traveled to a barrack on the outskirts of a fishing village, where he discovered the body of a fellow commander, slain during the battle. Jian ordered a soldier to summon the deceased commander's daughter, Zhang Zhi, to the barrack, and subsequently comforted the girl as she mourned the loss of her father. He then assured her that her father's actions during the siege had saved many lives and offered to lend a hand with the funeral expenses, much to Zhi's relief.[1]
