Nef
Nef (died 48 BCE) was an Egyptian resident of Memphis who housed homeless children during the reign of Ptolemy XIII.
Biography
During the mid 1st century BCE, Nef took in children who were homeless and had lived on the streets in the city. By 48 BCE, he had taken in many children such as Apheru, Neema, Ngozi, Iphri, as well as a teenage girl named Kawit.[1] That year, several of the children were kidnapped by Gaia Afrania, a wealthy Roman woman who sought to sell them as slaves. Kawit devoted herself to freeing the children from slavery, which she was able to do so with the help of the Medjay Bayek of Siwa.[2]
As retaliation for Kawit's action, Nef was murdered by Gaia, before she departed for Alexandria. Bayek and Kawit arrived too late to save him from the Roman. Entrusting Kawit to look after the children, Bayek took it upon himself to avenge Nef's death in her place.[3]
