The Astral Blade was an Isu sword engraved with many constellations.

In 2020, the Assassin Layla Hassan applied a modification to her Animus while she relived the memories of Eivor Varinsdottir and included the blade as part of the Viking's arsenal.[1]

Behind the scenes

The Astral Blade was created as part of an internal community initiative within the Mentors Guild, in which teams collaborated in a workshop to design weapons inspired by either Isu or Viking themes. Alongside the the Valravn's Claw, the Astral Blade was chosen as a finalist to be added as a playable weapon to Assassin's Creed Valhalla. It was made available to members of the Mentors Guild on September 7th 2021, and to all players via Ubisoft Connect on December 14th 2021.

During the design process, many teams created lore for the purpose of fleshing out their designs. While these stories were not included in the game or written with inclusion in mind, the following is the story provided by the team who designed the Astral Blade.

"After Bayek of Siwa put an end to Akhenaten's worship, he returned to the temple beneath the Sphinx and placed this blade there, in memory of his son Khemu, whose eyes often looked forward the stars.

Hundreds of years later, a strange young merchant, Reda, comes into possession of this blade, and tells one Eivor its tale: the man who wielded it put family foremost, and that only those who share similar convictions are deserving enough to wield it after. Having seen Eivor's commitment to her clan, he hands the sword over... and in her hands, the constellation-like markings on the blade begin to shine. Reda knew then that he had made the right choice."
