Abderos was a companion to Herakles in Greek mythology.
Mythology
Herakles' eighth labor was to tame the herd of mares belonging to Diomedes, who the king fed with human flesh. Abderos helped Herakles capture the animals, and stayed behind looking after them while Herakles chased Diomedes down. During this time, the mares ate the boy. In revenge, Herakles fed the king to his own horses and later founded the city of Abdera nearby in his friend's honor.[1]
