The Skylla

The Skylla was a warship commanded by the Magus Phila of the Order of the Storm during the Peloponnesian War.

History

In the 420s BCE, Phila, also known as "the Tempest", sailed out to prevent refugee ships from leaving Achaia and also to face the Spartan misthios Kassandra. Battling Kassandra's trireme, the Adrestia, the Skylla seemed to at first prevail, but as Kassandra had discovered how to fit the weapon known as Chimera's Breath on the Adrestia,[1] the Skylla soon floundered. In the storm that rose, the Skylla was crashed against the rocks of the beach, and Phila washed to the shore with a couple of her men.[2]

The Chimera's Breath had been conceived under Phila's orders in the hopes of outfitting the Skylla with it, but the attempt was initially unsuccessful, and she ran out of time to finish the weapon before Kassandra stole the plans and appropriated the weapon for the Adrestia.[3]

Behind the scenes

The name of Skylla, a ship in Assassin's Creed: Odyssey's DLC Legacy of the First Blade: Shadow Heritage, references the nymph-turned-monster Skylla in the Greek mythology.

The Skylla is the only heavy elite Persian trireme seen in the game.
