The Norsemen (or Norse people) were a North Germanic ethnolinguistic group of the Early Middle Ages, during which they spoke Old Norse and practiced a distinct set of beliefs known as Norse mythology. During the 8th century, the Norsemen embarked on seafaring expansions that would later be known as the Viking Age. These Norse traders, settlers and warriors became commonly known as Vikings.
