Wulfhere (died c. 900) was the Archbishop of York from 854 until his death in 900.

Biography[edit | edit source]

On 1 November 866, Wulfhere crowned Ealdorman Ælla as King of Northumbria.[1] The day also marked the Viking Capture of York, led by Ivarr the Boneless. Wulfhere and Ælla escaped before the conflicted reached them.[2]

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]

Wulfhere of York was a historical figure and character introduced in the 2020 manhua Assassin's Creed: Valhalla – Blood Brothers. Although never directly named in it, Wulfhere was the Archbishop who presided over Ælla's coronation and was present during the Viking's capture of York.
