Ishak Pasha (died 1497) was an Ottoman general, statesperson and Grand Vizier. He was also, secretly, the Mentor[1] of the Ottoman Brotherhood of Assassins.

Biography

Ishak Pasha was largely responsible for the established peace between the Assassins and the Ottomans during the early 16th century, as well as being the individual responsible for finding and recruiting the future Master Assassin, Yusuf Tazim. In 1476, he participated in the Ottoman military crackdown on a Hungarian uprising, defeating the rebel leader; a Templar named Vlad Tepes.[2]

At some point, Ishak Pasha also recruited the talented Janissary Murat Bin Husn into his personal guard and soon after into the Assassin Brotherhood as well.[1]

Around 1495, Pasha and a team of his best Assassins, namely Yusuf, Murat and Aleksei Zima, travelled to Spain on a secret mission to intercept a trade deal between the Byzantine Templars and the Spanish Templars. Their aim was to recover Niccolò Polo's diary from the clutches of the Templars, "The Secret Crusades" containing critical intel about the location of the Masyaf Keys. However, the Ottomans and their Spanish brethens discovered that it was a trap, the Byzantine Templars having already taken the diary elsewhere.[1]

Legacy

In around 1511, Sultan Bayezid II entrusted Pasha's mystical armor to his loyal bodyguad, Murat Bin Husn, who hid it in the Hagia Sophia to ensure its safety.[3] However, some months later Ezio Auditore da Firenze, Mentor of the Italian Assassins, found the scattered memoirs of Ishak Pasha, and used them to locate the armor from underneath the structure.[2]

Trivia

  • Pasha is a title that is awarded to represent a high-ranking Turkish officer or governor.
