The Malta Banking Corporation is a bank which forms part of the Abstergo Financial Group.[1] While the name predates Abstergo Industries itself by at least a decade, the exact foundation date of the corporation remains unknown. In 1927, the British Templar Darius Gift posed as a Malta Bank clerk to deliver a package for the Order's local chapter in Shanghai.[2]
Around 2011, Owen Meyers' father participated in a failed robbery of an MBC branch, during which a security guard was killed. After being abandoned by his accomplices, he was arrested for attempted robbery and the murder of the guard. A police officer later arrived at Owen's home to inform him and his mother of the events.[3][4]
On 15 September 2015, at MBC's San Diego branch, their employee Charlotte de la Cruz transferred $10,000 USD to the account of Ms. Morehead after learning that Morehead's insurance would not cover her daughter's healthcare. However, as she headed home, Charlotte realized this act would likely lead to her getting fired.[5]
By late 2016, Owen Meyer had become obsessed with proving that his father had not killed the guard, hoping to preserve his memories of his father and his perception of him. After becoming involved in the Assassin-Templar War, Isaiah showed him a simulation of the events from years ago, based on DNA Owen had obtained from his father after his arrest. However, Owen later concluded that, despite being convincing, the simulation could not be trusted because Isaiah himself was unreliable. He then sought out Sebastian Monroe for help in creating a simulation based on his father's genetic memories, as he trusted him. Eventually, after everything he had been through, Owen came to the realization that he did not need to know exactly what had happened all those years ago if it held so much power over him.[4]
