The Erymanthos Foothills formed the northern region of Elis, Greece.

Mythology[edit | edit source]

According to Greek mythology, the mountainous area was regarded as a place where centaurs lived.[1] True enough, while on his way to find the Erymanthian Boar, Herakles met the centaurs Pholos[2] and Chiron.[1]

5th century BCE[edit | edit source]

By the time of the Peloponnesian War, the Erymanthian Boar lived in the region, and terrorized its surroundings until the Spartan misthios Kassandra found and slew it.[3]
