Felix Martialis was the owner of the gladiator arena in Krokodilopolis in the Faiyum Oasis during the 1st century BCE.

Biography[edit | edit source]

As the owner of the gladiator arena in Krokodilopolis, Felix was responsible for overseeing the arena's recruitment of fighters and the organization of the fights that took place within. At some point in the mid-1st century BCE, Felix began working with the Faiyum's nomarch Berenike, sending her gladiators to allow them to earn more coins. Unbeknowst to Felix, Berenike was secretly a member of the Order of the Ancients, and used his gladiators to perform various assignments for the Order.[1]

In 49 BCE, Felix encountered Kensa, a woman from Siwa who had fled to the city after being captured by Lucius Septimius. Felix took Kensa in and trained her to become a gladiator. A year later in 48 BCE, Felix encountered the Medjay Bayek, who wished to gain entry into the arena. Felix initially turned Bayek away, but was then persuaded by Kensa to let Bayek try, ending with them fighting the Gallic brothers Diovicos and Viridovix.[1] After Bayek's victory, Felix told him he should also attend the arena in Cyrene.[2]
