Doreios was a priest of Asklepios working at the Sanctuary of Asklepios in Argolis, Greece during the 5th century BCE.
Biography[edit | edit source]
During the Peloponnesian War, Doreios was tasked as the caretaker of the sacred snakes. He was meant to keep them in their tholos.[1]
However, the snakes escaped and were drawn into the bathhouse of the Sanctuary by its warmth. While there, the snakes inadvertently caused the death of a patient, and this resulted in another priest, Pylenor, tasking the Spartan misthios Kassandra to get rid of the snakes.[1]
