This article is about the Achaemenid emperor Darius I. For other uses, see Darius.

Darius I (550 BCE – October 486 BCE), also known as Darius the Great, was a king of the Achaemenid Empire and pharaoh of Egypt. He was the father of Xerxes I.

Darius was strongly supported by the Order of the Ancients,[1] and they aided him when he overthrew the Empire's usurper Gaumata and ascended the throne of Persia.[2]
