Alvar was a Norse shipwright who lived in England during the 9th century.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Alvar lived together with his wife Sif at a farm in Oxfordshire, constantly working on a longship he kept in his backyard.[1]

When Viking shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir came across Alvar working on his ship she approached him. It quickly turned out Alvar lived in a fantasy, still seeing his old crew who aren't actually there, wanting to go on one last raid. Eivor decided to help the man and gathered ore, planks and hay. Eivor blew her horn and they were attacked by wolves, which to Alvar were Saxons. Eivor slew the wolves and explained to the man his crew is in Valhalla.[1]

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]

Alvar is a name derived from the Old Norse Alfarr, formed of the elements alfr "elf" and arr "warrior".
