Anbar was an ancient and medieval town in Iraq which briefly served as the capital of the Abbasid Caliphate. Following the founding of Baghdad, Anbar was superceded as the capital in the 8th century and became a province of the capital itself.

By 861, the later Hidden One Basim Ibn Ishaq lived in the town alongside his friend Nehal, where they performed numerous tasks for the collector Dervis, who was an ally of the Hidden Ones.[1]
