The Book of the Dead was a funerary text which was important in the ancient Egyptian religion. The book was a collection of texts and spells meant to assist the deceased's journey through the Duat.

In 48 BCE, the Medjay Bayek of Siwa chose to retrieve the Book of the Dead that bandits had stolen from an old man, Beka, in Yamu. Unfortunately, the man died of natural causes before Bayek could return the book. Instead, the Medjay laid it near Beka's body, awaiting mummification at the Temple of Sekhmet.[1]
