They call me many things: Murderer. Cutthroat. Thief. But you may call me Swordfish.

This article is about a subject that lacks an official name and is known only by its nickname, title, or alias.

―Swordfish[src]

Swordfish (died 420s BCE), also known as the Swordfish of Octopus Bay,[1] was a member of the Heroes of the Cult branch of the Cult of Kosmos. He had a hideout in Hermit's Dive below the Fisherman's Beacon in the Octopus Bay of Messara, Greece.

Biography

Entering the Labyrinth

Swordfish was a known treasure hunter, who used to dive around in the Octopus Bay, looking for valuables.[2] This habit led to him joining with three other men to enter the Minotaur's labyrinth seeking riches and glory. One of the men, Nikios, was killed by the Minotaur and the others barely managed to escape alive, sealing the labyrinth behind them.[3]

Later life and death

Afterwards, Swordfish' hold on the city of Heraklion, especially its fish market in the Fisherman's Beachhead, remained strong, even though the man himself went largely into hiding. The fishermen paid him tithes,[4] and if anyone dared to say a word against him, they were swiftly disciplined,[5] usually by being fed to the sharks outside his hideout.[4]

In 429 BCE, he was found by the Spartan misthios Kassandra while she was seeking information on Nikios at the request of his orphaned son Ardos. Swordfish didn't offer any help, instead attacking Kassandra, who killed him in self-defense. Kassandra then claimed Swordfish's piece of legendary armor from his body.[4]

Simulation

In the simulation of the Underworld created by the Isu Aletheia, Swordfish was recreated as one of the Fallen, and had in his possession the Chestplate of the Fallen. During her trials in the simulated Underworld, Kassandra once again encountered Swordfish and once again defeated him. She obtained his piece of the Armor of the Fallen in order to pass through the Veil's miasma.[6]

Personality and characteristics

After his traumatic experience in the Minotaur's labyrinth, Swordfish's mental state deteriorated into disarray, and he had a habit of talking to himself. He had seemingly grown disillusioned with the Cult and desired to desert it. He attacked Kassandra on the mistaken assumption that she was the Cult's enforcer, Deimos, and was there to either kill him or take him to the Cult.[4]

Trivia

  • Most Cultists have a formal "unveiling" along with a boastful quote, either from a clue or fulfilling a relevant quest objective, prior to becoming trackable on the world map. Swordfish, however, is not unveiled in this manner until after his kill is confirmed, with his back already facing the camera in defeat. Cultists who are killed before their unveiling simply skip the boast.
