The Winter Palace was a palace in Anbar, serving as a residence for the Abbasid caliphs before Baghdad was founded as the empire's new capital.
History
On 11 December 861, the caliph Al-Mutawakkil arrived at the palace with his envoy to meet with his allies, the Order of the Ancients. That night, Al-Mutawakkil presented a large chest containing an artifact which he had been asked to find. Once the Order had confirmed his find, they reminded Al-Mutawakki to keep in line and not to ever look inside the chest for his own sake before leaving.[1]
That same night, the thief Basim Ibn Ishaq and his friend Nehal infiltrated the palace to recover the artifact for the Hidden Ones.
