The Two Kings of Sparta were the joint rulers of Lakonia, Greece. One of them was a member of the Agiad and the other a member of the Eurypontid family, both allegedly descendants of the legendary Greek hero Herakles and thus equals.
This joint rulership was thought to enforce both kings to be honest, given that they made political decisions together. They were also accountable to the ephors.[1]
History
During the Peloponnesian War the rulership was shared by Kings Archidamos and Pausanias. However, it was disturbed by the misthios Kassandra as she accused one of them being a member of the secretive organization called Cult of Kosmos, and a traitor to Sparta.[2]
