Overview of the Suenites Quarry

The Suenites Quarry was located within the Tavern Point region of the island of Mykonos, Greece.

During the Peloponnesian War the Spartan misthios Kassandra explored the quarry, finding it to be occupied by military forces.[1] She was also sent there by the Spartan polemarch Thaletas to deal with Athenian polemarchs to weaken their presence on the Silver Islands. Over the course of this task, Kassandra learned that one of the polemarchs, Neokles, had defected and was in hiding within the Kynthos Hills of Delos.[2]

Trivia

  • The name of the place references the Egyptian city of Swenett, for it was known by the ancient Greeks as Συήνη (Syene).
