Ariq Boke (1219 – 1266) was a claimant to the khagan title of the Mongol Empire. He was the grandson of Genghis Khan and a brother of Hülegü Khan, Möngke Khan, and Kublai Khan. He shortly reigned as a claimant regent Khan from 1259 until 1264.
Biography
On 11 August 1259, directly following the murder of his brother Möngke by the Assassin Zhang Zhi, Ariq's nephew, Asutai, made comment that there would soon be a power struggle for the throne and that his claim would be challenged by Kublai with support from their other brother Hülegü.[1]
