The Roman Republic was the period of the ancient Roman civilization when the government operated as a republic. The Roman Republic was founded in 509 BCE after the overthrow of the Roman Kingdom, and predated the Roman Empire.
The government of the Roman Republic was heavily influenced by the Templar Order, known then as the Order of the Ancients, throughout its existence.[1] The Templars supported Gaius Julius Caesar, a Roman general, statesman and consul, when he was appointed dictator of the Roman Republic.[2] Because of Caesar's corruption, a group of Hidden Ones senators calling themselves Liberatores, under leadership of Marcus Junius Brutus and Amunet[3], plotted the dictator's assassination, and killed him in the Roman Senate.[4]
Marcus Junius Brutus and his co-conspirator Gaius Cassius Longinus fled, but were pursued by the Romans under leadership of Marcus Antonius and Octavian. The forces of the Liberatores were eventually crushed, and Brutus committed suicide during the Battle of Philippi, in Makedonia. Octavian took power for himself, and gradually dissolved the Republic, while founding the new Roman Empire.[5]
