"This is crazy! What did I do to tick off my bosses? Goose chase in the middle of a war zone while our own boys are dropping the bombs on me. For what? Chance that it may be the real thing? Right... been at this nearly twenty years and I don't even believe it exists."
―Scipione on his search for a Shroud of Eden, 1944.[src]-[m]

Keith Scipione[1] was an employee of Abstergo Industries who was tasked with obtaining the Shroud of Eden from the Baguttiani family in Milan, Italy, during World War II.

Biography[edit | edit source]

In 1944, Scipione was ordered by his superiors at Abstergo to acquire the Shroud, a mission he believed to be a "wild goose chase" and a waste of his time. Nonetheless, he set up a meeting with a member of the Baguttiani family at a restaurant in Milan to purchase the artifact. Bringing a bag full of money for the transaction, Scipione dressed as a local to avoid drawing any unwanted attention from the citizens of the war-torn city.[2]

Inside the restaurant, Scipione met with the Baguttiani and held the man at gunpoint as he inspected the Shroud, which was kept within a wooden box. Scipione was initially unimpressed by the Shroud's ragged appearance, but as he pulled out an Abstergo keychain to verify the artifact's authenticity, all his doubts were quelled when the chain suddenly began to vibrate.[2]
