Troyes

Troyes is a city in France. It was the location where the Templars officially made themselves public as the Order of the Knights Templar, in 1129. After the end of the Templars as a knightly order, the city still served as one of their bases.

History

In the early 16th century, the Italian Assassin Giovanni Borgia, along with his companion Maria Amiel, visited Troyes, in the search for a Templar known only as "the Viper". Aware of the dangers that staying in a city controlled by his enemies brought, Giovanni rented a single room for himself and Maria, but refused to sleep during the night they stayed there.

The following day, Giovanni and Maria visited the Troyes Cathedral, where they were quickly identified by the Viper, who had studied their appearances in Basel. The Viper then came over to Maria and began speaking to her, whispering in her ear, but Giovanni quickly approached from behind and assassinated him. Afterwards, the pair left the town immediately, as they were pursued by several enraged Templars.

In 1740, the British Templars' Grand Master Reginald Birch took over the Droupt-Saint-Basle chateau near Troyes and used it as a base of operations. He lived there with his protégé Haytham Kenway, who trained on the chateau's grounds. When Haytham learned that Birch was responsible for the 1735 attack on the Kenway Mansion that had resulted in his father Edward's death, he attacked the chateau in 1757 alongside his half-sister Jennifer Scott and close friend Jim Holden. During the attack, Birch and his henchmen were killed, and Haytham would reside in the chateau with Jennifer and Holden for the next few months while he recovered from a sword wound he had sustained.
